I'd hardly call Helmet a metal band, but they rule. A bassist I used to play with got to jam with Page Hamilton.
I'm in a power metal mood today.
For Helmet, I would say that it depends on the period of their music you are listening to. They are categorized really as Alternative metal or Heavy Metal.
I tend to not like Power Metal and especially Ice Earth if it's their original work (they do a lot of cover though).
