Welcome to The Infinity Program, a general discussion forum. As the founder, one of my goals is to maintain this community even as others fall to the wayside. Also, I want to encourage engaging conversation by regularly submitting new topics that contain thoughts and insights rather than just aggregated material (if even that).

If you are a first time visitor and want to know more about this place, read the “Guide,” “A Short History of the Forum,” and the highly entertaining “A Brief History of the Universe.” Alternatively, if you want to submit feedback, contact us.

Go Back   The Infinity Program > Forum-Related > Requisite Reading

Requisite Reading Rules, announcements, and basic forum details. A little dry yet essential, so read this first.

After figuring out how to customize the Articles forum the way I want, I decided to bring it back. I plan to link it to the navigation bar for both members and guests to see later on. At this time, though, you have to select "Articles" (below the introduction forum) near the bottom of the front page to access it. I may create a sub-forum for submissions later on, too.

For now, you can either submit an article to a suitable category (the ones available right now are "Programming & Management" and "Electronics") or post it here and wait for me to transfer it to the Articles forum after setting up a proper category. Also, you can submit an essay on any subject, from religion and politics, to computers and music — whatever it is, as long as you think it's worth having as featured content meant to inform or argue.

What about the content that would be considered a an Opinion Journal Column?

Sure, I'd accept your columns, too.

-edit- There's now an "Article Submissions" sub-forum attached to the Articles forum. Anyone may submit an article there. There's an announcement inside with all the details.

Are you aware that clicking "Article Submission" in the "Article" section will take you to articles.php?c=45 while clicking it on the outside, like it's a subforum link, will take you to forumdisplay.php?f=44 ?

This may just be an error on my part, but I thought it couldn't hurt to find out.

Yeah, I'm trying to figure out how to set up that "Article Submissions" sub-forum in such a way that it doesn't appear on the "Articles" page. I still have to ask the guy who managed to do that at his forum. -edit- The problem is fixed.

Integrating the Encyclopedia seems like an interesting idea. I'll have to look into that later.

-edit-

Any new articles will now be seen in the "Sample Topics" box near the top of the front page of the forum.

Along those lines, please read my essay, "The Elected President: A Case Study."

Interesting feature. Maybe the encyclopedia could get integrated into this article system somehow. Would make it easier on Saint when he's linking various posts. Would also make it easier to browse as an actual archive.

I'll be reading the case study later. Suggestion.

Make this post an article with this one as the reference on the bottom.

Posts 67, 68, 69, 70, 72, 73, 74 afterwords in the thread as replies.

If Saint and Reverend Saeth are alright with that, I don't see why not. Unfortunately, Reverend Saeth hasn't been around for a long while, so I can't ask him. Or am I seeing an ethical issue where none exists?

By the way, if anyone here has an old post (and maybe replies to that post) on these forums he'd like to see reprinted in Articles, let me know here or by PM.

I've actually got about three things in the drafts section (talking about the Batman stuff going on now, the first part of a profile on Deadpool I haven't started writing, and a bit on the current Madame Xanadu comic), and I'm writing up a retrospective thing on Marvel's Civil War.

Was just looking at this article. That character gets fucked over way too much.

He really does. It's rather impressive. I'm just hoping the movie doesn't disappoint me any more than the previous.

It's a movie after a comic book. They will most likely fuck it up.

I tend to approach comic book movies as either "completely fucked up" or "good for what it is". I'm hoping it'll be the latter. Or be like The Dark Knight, and just so fucking cool that I won't give a shit about any glaring continuity errors.

I hope it ends up like the Batman movie. Otherwise, Deadpool would deserve a funeral.

The Kubler-Ross model of grief dictates that last stage of comic book movies is saying "At least I still have the comics." I dunno. There's a lot they could do well, but also so much they could fuck up.

I don't really think that should be an article, actually. There was no real article, just a bunch of arguing. It was when Saeth was still new, so I didn't know him and didn't realize that he wasn't a moron at the time.

Well, at the time I was searching for an article on comics since that was lacking. That post of yours proved some good points so I elected it. This was before wooly-chicken-sandwich-man posted his article.

If Saint actually wrote articles, he and I could fill the damn place.

For "The Infinity Encyclopedia," an integrated Wiki may be a better idea. Along those lines, I found a modification called "THS Wiki -- Lightweight wiki for vBulletin" available for download on this page: http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=213853. If I add this modification, I may make a sub-forum under "Requisite Reading" that redirects to the integrated Wiki.

Here are screen shots:

If I understand correctly, since this modification makes use of one of the forums, members are still subject to the restrictions placed upon them by user group permissions. However, the Wiki provides additional moderation abilities: "[s]cript, object and embed tag suppression" and banning a member only from the Wiki (as opposed to the entire forum).
